For what it’s worth, my opinion (and it’s just that, an opinion) about the fervent commitment of Trump’s supporters is that saying that you’re for him is code for saying that you blame America’s problems on black, brown or Muslim people without having to say “I’m a racist.”

Supporting Trump is a safe way of telling people that you think all our problems would be fixed if we just “did something” about “those people.”

In 1935 when a German said, “Hitler is the best” he didn’t have to add “And we need to get rid of all those damn Jews.” Everybody knew what he meant.
