I think Hank is touching on the basic problem in commerce — finding the mechanism that can connect the people who want to sell a thing with the people who want to buy that very same thing. Advertisers blast an ad about their SUV to a million people, only a thousand of which, at that instant, want to buy an SUV.

If you’re a musician or a writer or whatever there are people out there who want to consume your product and are possibly willing to pay for it. How do you find them? How do they find you? How do you price the product?

As for the pricing, I like the idea of setting a range, e.g. $0 — $5, and asking the user to pay what it was worth to them. The more $5's you get the better people think your product is. The more 0's you get, the more you should worry about the content you’re producing.

Just a thought.
