If people wanted guns for self protection they’d buy a shotgun or a .45 pistol. People want assault rifles for the same reason the Taliban and ISIS wants assault rifles, because they want to prepare for the day when their anarchist dreams can be fulfilled and they can go to war with the government and get rid of all those pesky laws prohibiting pollution, tainted food, monopolies, dangerous working conditions, discrimination, and anything else that might keep them from doing whatever the hell they want.
