Jerry Seinfeld cancelled his own show at the top because he didn't want it happening to him.

Gerry Marshall wasn't smart enough to do that and we had the famous "Jump The Shark" Happy Days episode that signalled to everyone that the show had gone on too long.

Dare we hope that Captain Evil is very, very close to Jumping The Shark?
