Jonas, I completely agree with your position but I still find myself struggling with basic UI issues from companies that should know better. Google, for example.
I needed to sign up for something on a Google site and here are a few of the things I found: A text box where no boxing was needed around the text; the text ran beyond the boundaries of the box and became invisible, and there was no scroll bar; a 3-letter code box that was not a drop-down list and there was no help screen to give a clue of what codes were acceptable or required; a “Give Us Feedback” screen with a limit of 150 or so words so that you couldn’t even list the many, many other problems with the site.
So, if Google is so incompetent that it can’t even rise to this basic level of UI, what hope is there for software in general? — David Grace
