Noncompetes are generally unenforceable in California but they are also of zero importance to most workers. They only materially impact highly-skilled, tech workers and have little impact on the general run of employees.
If it politically can’t enact a living-wage minimum wage and a living-wage salary floor, why would the Democratic party want to waste its energy banging its head against the UBI wall?
It may as well make free marijuana its central policy as try to tell the people who put the Republican party in control of this country and who think a living wage is socialism that the Democrats want to enact a UBI and that the Democrats think employers should still pay wages to employees who’ve decided that they don’t want to work any more.
That kind of a platform would be a great way to go from 48 senators to about 25.
On the other hand advocating that everyone who wants to work can have job that pays a living wage does have a chance of working.
As an aside, if people only work at jobs that give them a sense of satisfaction and purpose no one is going to pick the lettuce, haul the garbage, slaughter cows or do any of the other necessary but unpleasant jobs.
Utopia is a nonstarter.
