Wow, Allan, this column has hit my brain like an electric shock.

I’ve often wondered if there were two of every one of us, each living in an alternate universe which we only occasionally fleetingly glimpse in our dreams. Heavy stuff, right?

Maybe Rudy is right. Maybe the MIC (Megalomaniac In Chief) only exists as a real human in one of those universes and not in the other.

Until now, Rudy has been living in the MIC-Is-Real Universe, but through some cosmic hiccup Rudy’s consciousness has slipped into the MIC-Is-Just-A-Character-In-A-New-Larry-David-Wacky-HBO-Sitcom Universe.

I suspect that Rudy Giuliani’s fevered brain may constitute a weak spot between two of these realities and when he becomes overly agitated he slips into some kind of a waking fever dream where he skips from one cosmos to the other.

Clearly, Rudy has recently popped out of our benighted universe where the MIC is relatively close to being an actual human being and into an alternate reality where Alec Baldwin masterly performs the role of the big-headed reality-show buffoon along the lines of Seinfeld’s characterization of George Steinbrenner, which, of course, would make a lot more sense than the MIC being an honest-to-God human.

I mean, I still can’t believe that he’s actually a real person and not an escapee from a skit on Saturday Night Live. Wasn’t there a Twilight Zone episode where something like that happened?

Sadly, the rest of us are still stuck here in the MIC-Is-Real Universe with no way to switch to the MIC-Is-Just-A-Character-In-A-New-Larry-David-Wacky-HBO-Sitcom Universe which Rudy, the lucky bastard, now inhabits.
